Church and Community Mobilization (CCM) of Yayasan Sion was born out of a calling to encourage the church to play an active role in holistic and sustainable change alongside the community. Until now, church ministry has often focused solely on spiritual aspects, while social, economic, and environmental aspects have frequently received insufficient attention. To address this challenge, CCM was established to empower local churches so they can become agents of change with a broad impact within the community.
The CCM learning process began with a collaboration between GKJTU and Yayasan Sion as GKJTU’s diaconal body. In 2012, representatives from Yayasan Sion learned firsthand about holistic ministry from churches in Cambodia. Since then, the CCM approach has been implemented and continues to evolve across various regions of Indonesia, despite facing many challenges. The shift in congregational mindset and community empowerment occur naturally, thereby increasing a sense of ownership toward the church and strengthening the movement’s sustainability. Currently, Yayasan Sion serves 212 churches from various denominations spread across Sumatra, Java, Yogyakarta, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua.
Goal
The CCM program aims to help churches and communities bring about holistic—encompassing spiritual, social, economic, and environmental aspects—and sustainable change, through the active participation of congregants and community members.
